OHHHHHH Vienna!!!

As I'm sure you are all aware the title of this post comes from a song by Ultravox. For those who didn't know, Ultravox were big in the 1980's, and their front man was none other than Midge Ure. Still struggling? Midge Ure is the co-creator of Live Aid, though he tends to skulk around in the background while Geldof does his "I am the Irish Jesus" thing. Incidentally, when I was a kid we had this song on a tape in the car, and I used to sing along, but I obviously hadn't really listened properly as I used to sing "Ohhhhh Theodore!!" for the chorus, changing an otherwise unremarkable song about Vienna, into a slightly random ode to someone with an unusual name.
On the same cassette was "Eton Rifles" by The Jam, but I thought it was called "Eat Them Trifles", I reckon that maybe the speakers were broken in the car.

Anyway, the point is that in less than a week I am leaving my fair island for foreign lands, the aforementioned Vienna to be more precise. And, although up till now I have used this blog as a means to express my opinion on various matters, toothbrush marketing and the hidden level of Paganism within Christianity, I think from now on I will also write about life in Vienna. Don't worry, the random rants and ridiculous stories will continue, but you will also be able to get something resembling "news" here too! How often, who knows?! But I'll do my best.

Right, really should get back to packing the best part of 25 years into my suitcase, laptop bag and my cricket bag (the airline is letting me take a bag of "sports equipment" for an extra tenner!)

So, bye for now!

Come on the music in the car wasn't really as bad as all that, what about the Leonard Cohen and Lou Reed tape - now that's what i call music... don't get excited mark wheeler if you are reading this i don't mean the rubbish "now that's what i call music" tapes that you undoubtably have in your very sparse collection!!! I mean proper music Led Zep, Free etc.
